Our university's Faculty of Sports Sciences Physical Education and Sports Teaching Program hosted a meaningful event for students with special needs. As part of the Adapted Physical Education and Sports course, 4th-year students provided basketball and wrestling training to students from Burdur Şehit Hakan Aktürk Special Education Vocational School. The event was held in our sports halls under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Elif Top.
In the training, students with special needs were taught the basic techniques of basketball, such as dribbling, passing, and shooting, in a fun way. Similarly, wrestling training was also given interactively, with practical applications of double leg takedown, single leg takedown, and pinning techniques.
This special event offered a great professional experience opportunity for the Teaching Department students. Organizing activities tailored to the needs of different disability groups played an important role in developing their teaching skills. The students expressed their happiness in spending time with children with special needs and stated that such practices are indispensable experiences for the teaching profession.
The students of Şehit Hakan Aktürk Special Education Vocational School expressed that they greatly enjoyed the event, wished to participate in similar events, and hoped for the continuation of such activities in the future.
